Description

Starting in Nairobi and ending on the shores of the Indian Ocean, this small group safari visits three diverse wilderness areas of Kenya: the lakes of the Great Rift Valley; the open plains of the Mara; and the undulating hills of Tsavo. This is a scheduled group safari accommodating 2-7 passengers and beginning in Nairobi every month.

The majority of the small group safaris that we offer take place in Africa, including Tanzania, Kenya, Namibia, Zambia, Botswana and Uganda. These are fixed date departures, and typically accommodate no more than 10 passengers each. Ideally suited to solo holiday-makers or couples looking to travel in the company of others, they offer a great option for those wanting to explore in the company of others and avoid the prohibitive costs involved in private solo travel.

While most small group safaris will focus on the popular safari routes, such as Tanzania’s famous Northern Circuit, we also offer a number of itineraries to less-visited regions, including Zambia’s Liuwa Plain. One of the great advantages of joining a group departure is that they can make otherwise difficult and costly to access regions such as Liuwa much more accessible!

Beyond Africa, we also offer small group wildlife adventures in a number of European destinations. These include expert-led wildlife tours in coastal and highland Scotland to search for Golden eagles, dolphins and seals; birding tours in rural Spain; and summer & winter adventures into the Swedish wilderness in search of beavers, wolves, and more.

You’ll find a selection of our small group wildlife itineraries below. If you’d like to join a scheduled departure but are unsure where to start, please don’t hesitate to get in touch and we’ll be glad to help you choose a suitable itinerary.

You will be met on arrival in Nairobi and transferred to the  Hotel, for one night on bed & breakfast basis. Evening at leisure.

You will be met by your chief guide this morning at 7am in the hotel reception, ready for departure at 7:30am. We advise that you request a wake-up call from the hotel staff.
Leaving Nairobi after breakfast, you'll travel towards Kenya's fertile highlands and head down the Rift Escarpment on a road built by Italian prisoners of war during World War II. Look out for the chapel they built at the foot of the escarpment. You'll pass the impressive Longonot earth satellite station as you continue through the Rift Valley to Narok, and then on to the Masai Mara and your lodge in time for lunch. After lunch and a siesta, embark on an afternoon game drive, returning to the lodge as the sun sets.

Embark on early morning and afternoon game drives in the Masai Mara, returning to Lodge in the evening.

Considered by many to be one of the foremost natural wonders of the world, the Masai Mara is a land of breath-taking vistas and varied landscapes, from vast rolling plains, acacia woodlands, and dense thickets of scrub, to the riverine eco-system of the Mara River. Its savannah plains teem with endless herds of grazing game—and their respective predators. You will travel with an experienced guide in a sturdy vehicle ensuring that you have the best chance of seeing and understanding all that the park has to offer, then back to Lodge for dinner and overnight.

Leaving the Masai Mara after breakfast, you'll travel through what is sometimes referred to as the ‘breadbasket’ of Kenya, where acres of wheat and barley fields define the landscape, as you head north to Narok, the district headquarters of this part of Maasailand.

Continue across the vast plains on the floor of the Rift Valley, keeping an eye out for herds of giraffe and gazelle as you head up the Mau Escarpment, before arriving at Lake Nakuru. The waters here are often coloured flamingo pink, reflecting the thousands of birds that line its shores. After lunch at Lake Nakuru Lodge, depart for an afternoon game drive in Nakuru National Park before returning to the lodge for dinner and overnight.

After an early breakfast, depart Lake Nakuru with a picnic lunch, leaving the Rift Valley behind and continuing towards Amboseli.

After an early morning game drive in Amboseli, return to the lodge for lunch, before departing from Amboseli for Tsavo West.
It is a drive of approx 2½ hours from Amboseli to Tsavo West, taking you east across the spectacular Shetani lava flow, a reminder of the molten outpouring that spilled down the scenic slopes of the nearby Chyulu Hills over the last three centuries. From there, a zig-zagging road through scrub thorn and acacia leads into Tsavo National Park, the largest of Kenya’s parks. Expect game-viewing opportunities along the way, with lots of gerenuk in this region.

Enjoy a morning game drive in Tsavo, including a visit to the Mzima Springs with their underwater viewing holes.

After breakfast enjoy a morning game drive in the Taita Hills before returning to the lodge for lunch. Following lunch, continue to Mombasa, where you will be dropped off at the airport (if departing this afternoon) or at your hotel if overnighting.

My experience with Roger as a tourist guide in Uganda Awsome experience! We traveled around Uganda and saw animals, climbed Mt.Elgon and visited a tribe. Our guide was very genuine and funny. The only thing I would have liked more is a breifing of the day. Other than that I totally recommend Roger as a Tourist Guide!!

Murchison falls - a 3 day customized safari tour The Game Ranger Tours team took us to a three day safari to the Murchison falls - the national park in the north-western Uganda. The owner of the travel agency - Roger - prepared a customized programme for us. We left Kampala at about 1 pm and drove for about six hours to the park to catch the last ferry to the other side of Nile at 7pm. After crossing the river, we were accommodated in a beautiful lodge called Paraa Safari. Next morning we started early to safari game drive across the savannah grassland. Our tour guide and driver - Juuko knew every road in the park. He took us to places where we saw giraffes, buffaloes, hartebeests, antelopes, kobs, elephants and many more wild animals and birds. The drive was a fantastic experience we'll never forget. In the afternoon we got back to the lodge to have lunch and then at about 3 pm took a boat to the falls - so beautiful nature sight! On the third day, before heading back to Kampala Roger and Juuko took us to the top of the falls where we could actually see how powerfull and strong the waterfall is! On our way to Kampala we visited the Ziwa Rhino sanctuary too and were lucky to see a baby rhino and its parents. After the three full days of adventure, we safely returned to the capital. Thank you so much, Roger and Juuko, for taking care of us and for showing us how beautiful Uganda is. Hope to see you again!

My woderful stay in Entebbe and Uganda During my stay in Entebbe, I eas able to fufil my childhood dreams, namely to touch the waters of Victoria Lake and, then, to travel to the soirces of the Nile. My best tour guide was, of course, Ras. His name has got a powerful meaning in Ethiopian, i.e. Prince. He is a genuine prince by heart, character and manner. To me, Entebbe is the city of God. Uganda and Tanzania are the countries to which I would always come back. If Africa has its heart, then the heart's two chambers are Tanzania and Uganda. To all white people like me, I wpuld like to say that the cradle of the mankind is to be found in Africa. My skin is white, but my heart is black. And I ma proud of it.
