Tour Plan: Day-wise Itinerary
Your adventure begins at Lemosho Gate, where you will meet your professional guides and porters. After registration and briefing, the trek sets off through the lush rainforest zone. This stretch is rich in flora and fauna—you may spot colobus monkeys, colorful birds, and exotic plant species as you move along the winding trails. The air is fresh and cool, and waterfalls add beauty to the landscape. By late afternoon, you’ll reach Shira 1 Camp (3,500m), your first overnight stay with stunning views of the surrounding hills.
After breakfast, begin your trek across the Shira Plateau, one of the most scenic sections of the route. The rainforest gives way to moorland and alpine vegetation. As the landscape opens up, panoramic views of Kilimanjaro’s peaks and the vast valleys unfold before you. The gentle terrain allows plenty of time to acclimatize to the higher altitude. By evening, arrive at Shira 2 Camp (3,850m) for an overnight stay, where sunsets are often breathtaking.
Today’s trek takes you gradually up and over ridges, then down into the Barranco Valley. Along the way, the vegetation changes into giant heathers and unique alpine plants like the Giant Lobelia. The route offers incredible views of Kibo Peak and the Western Breach. You’ll end the day at Barranco Camp (3,960m), nestled beneath towering cliffs and close to the famous Barranco Wall. The dramatic setting makes this one of the most memorable camps on the trek.
After an early breakfast, you’ll tackle the Barranco Wall, a challenging but rewarding climb that provides magnificent views from the top. The trail then descends into the Karanga Valley, where you’ll cross small streams before ascending again toward Barafu. By afternoon, you’ll reach Barafu Camp (4,673m), which sits on a barren ridge overlooking the summit route. This is the staging point for your summit attempt, so the evening is spent resting, preparing gear, and having an early dinner before your night ascent.
This is the most demanding but also the most rewarding day of your trek. Around midnight, begin the climb under the stars, with the cold night air and snow-covered path leading the way. After several hours of steady trekking, you’ll reach Stella Point (5,739m) just in time for a magnificent sunrise. From here, it’s a final push to Uhuru Peak (5,895m)—the highest point in Africa. Celebrate your achievement, take photos, and soak in the once-in-a-lifetime view before beginning the descent back to Mweka Camp (3,100m). Overnight here for a well-deserved rest.
Enjoy a relaxed breakfast before descending through the lush montane forest. The trail is filled with birdlife, towering trees, and occasional monkeys. By late morning, you’ll arrive at Mweka Gate (1,640m), where successful trekkers receive their summit certificates. From here, transfer back to Moshi town, where you can relax, celebrate with your team, and enjoy a comfortable night.
After breakfast, check out from your hotel. Depending on your schedule, you can transfer to the airport for your flight home or continue your adventure with an optional Tanzania safari or Zanzibar beach holiday.
